What to Do if You’re Not Happy with Temporary Veneers

Temporary veneers are a popular solution for people who are seeking a temporary fix for their teeth while waiting for their permanent veneers to be made. However, what do you do if you aren’t happy with how your veneers look or feel? Are you stuck with them?

The most important thing to do when you’re not happy with your temporary veneers is to speak with your dentist as soon as you can. This can give both of you the opportunity to make changes and adjustments before the permanent veneers are made, which can save you time, money, and discomfort in the long run!

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells placed on the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance and function. Typically made of porcelain, they’re designed to look and feel just like natural teeth.

These are often used to treat a variety of cosmetic issues, like teeth that are stained, chipped, misshapen, or even crooked. In some situations, they can also be used to close gaps between teeth or help improve the appearance of your smile.

The process of getting veneers installed is fairly simple:

  • First, the dentist takes an impression of your teeth in order to create a mould that is then used to create the veneers.
  • Then, a small amount of enamel is removed from the surface of your teeth to make room for the veneer to ensure your mouth isn’t too crowded with extra material.
  • Finally, the veneers are bonded to the surface of your teeth using a special adhesive.

Veneers are a popular cosmetic dental treatment because they act as a long-lasting solution for a wide range of issues. Typically, a dentist will install a temporary set of veneers while the permanent ones are being made.

Can Veneers Be Changed?

One of the best things about veneers is that they can be adjusted or replaced if necessary—and this is especially easy during the temporary stage. If you aren’t happy with your temporary veneers, your dentist can adjust them so they’re the right fit for you. It’s important to mention this as early on in the process as you can, though, as it may be more difficult or more expensive to make changes once the permanent veneers are installed.

For example, if you think the temporary veneers are too long, your dentist can trim them to a more desirable length. If they’re too thick, some material can be removed to make them thinner. Even the colour can be changed to some extent if necessary!

The sooner you suggest making changes, the easier it is. It’s important to communicate with your dentist about your thoughts on the veneers. It helps to look at temporary veneers as a “trial run” of sorts—they help you determine what you do and don’t want in the permanent ones.

How to Speak to Your Dentist About Changing Your Veneers

If you aren’t happy with your temporary veneers, tell your dentist.

It helps to be specific. Communicate exactly what your concerns are with the veneers, and be as specific as possible. If they’re too long, too sharp, too square, too thick—let them know. By sharing exactly what’s bothering you about your veneers, your dentist can propose a solution to help!

It’s important to also find out if the permanent veneers will look exactly like the temporary ones. In some situations, temporary veneers may not be completely rounded out or the exact chosen colour. Your dentist can explain any differences that may come up.

Being honest and open about your thoughts can make all the difference. After all, your dentist is going to want you happy and satisfied, so don’t worry about needing to make changes! They’ll be happy to give you an end result that makes you feel more confident with your smile.

Patience and understanding are going to be key here. It may take a few appointments to get your veneers exactly how you like, so being patient can make a big difference. Veneers last a long, long time, so it’s important that you love the way they look and feel.
